Today I suffered a bit of nostalgia as I watched 4 beautiful young ladies strut the runway in prom wear for the young modern fashionista. DIY & lifestyle expert blogger Mr Kate (yeah I know, I expected a guy to), shared many valuable tips to an audience of young girls on how to enhance their prom looks. The event was held at Macy's Millennia and since Macy's is just a hop and a skip from my doorstep, I usually attend their events. There was so much going on; complimentary nail services, DIY projects, complimentary hair styling, fashion show & gift cards for those who tweeted about the event. There was also one lucky winner of a $100 Macy's gift card to spend with the assistance of Mr Kate.
Mr Kate (she's hilarious, you have to check out her youtube channel & she's super creative)
I'm so happy I attended because it certainly brought back memories that I had somehow suppressed to the deepest darkest section of my memory...LOL. Now I know why! My prom dress was hideous now that I think about it. What was I thinking?! Here's the thing, my prom took place at a point in my life where I was just starting to become aware of the fact that i'm a young lady and I should start carrying myself as such...=). I was such a fun loving tomboy who cared about literally NOTHING! Those were the days...no bills...little to no responsibilities....just stress free living. I mean I still try to keep my life this way but the older you get the more you don't have a choice I guess. I had just started wearing heels and I was slowly coming into my own. Problem is, my full transformation didn't happen by the time prom came around...HAHA.
Watching these beautiful young ladies strut their stuff in these colorful, asymmetric prom dresses was refreshing. My prom was about a 100 years ago so I had a lot of trouble finding the pics to share with you. I searched high and low but because I more or less moved across the globe since then, they must have been lost somewhere in the transition. Bummer! I really wanted to give you guys a good laugh. In my defense, however, it really wasn't that bad. My dress was just really boring plus I didn't realize the purpose of makeup back then. HA! My dress looked a little something like this:
and trust me, this is a MUCH cuter version. Mine was a light green color and I literally looked liked someone's grandma now that I think about it...but I still insist it wasn't that bad. Oh how I wish I found those pictures. Anyway, the ones I saw at the event were a lot better than what I wore. For those of you about to embark on the wonderful experience that is prom, Mr Kate definitely had some cute and fun tips for you. She's definitely an out of the box thinker and I love it. Her and I can definitely hang and it'll be like we knew each other forever. These tips are definitely guaranteed to help you create your own unique prom memory while just helping you get ready for that big day.
Untraditional prom shoes (sneaker wedges)
(It's simple you just splatter nail polish all over an old clutch. Sex & the city fans know what i'm talking about)
Wearing wedges
Face painting to add a fun touch to your look
(I would have made this a little bigger, this size just makes it look like a mole or a bug's sitting on her face..=))
Adding jewels to your shoes & wearing miss-matched earrings
(You can't tell from the picture but the model is wearing one long earring with a shorter one in the other ear.)
Different color shoes
Of all the looks I saw, this is by far the one that I would wear if I could do prom all over again
I LOVED THIS DRESS! It's the perfect mixture of elegance without overdoing it.

Complimentary Hair Bar, DIY & nail services
The girls were lining up for all the complimentary services. I, on the other hand, was too distracted by the Mac makeup stand nearby. Although i'm a bit of a naturalista, I'm trying to learn the art of makeup. Wish me luck!
Which of these dresses would you wear to prom? I was hoping to try on my dream dress (just for fun) but I didn't fall in love with any except that last one (white dress) but the model was wearing the last one left in my size. That dress is a huge step up from what I wore 100 years ago and I love it paired with gold accessories. I would wear it a little different than the model by pairing it with some sexy gold shoes. What did you wear to your prom? Leave a comment below.
Hope you enjoy! Look out for my official outfit post on what I wore to the event.
Love,
T’wana
