Battle of Nature

Photobucket

I use to wonder why so many bloggers complained about the weather on almost every post, but how can you NOT??? The type of heat we've been experiencing here in Florida is not normal and by any means welcomed, at least not by me. The forecast today says 93 degrees Fahrenheit but it feels like 120 degrees (not that I know what that really feels like but I imagine it would feel like this) of total insanity!!! I find myself in a fantasy where there is an inevitable war between the sun and the ocean (clouds are not to get involved) and I shamelessly join the battle of the ocean despite it's lack of dominance. I'm diving back and forth in clear not to shallow waters where the suns only affect on me is the beautiful imagery it creates as it glistens on the ocean's floor. I turn and look at it and think as though it can hear me, 'try to burn me now you miserable prick'. Then I snap out of it and get back to living at the sun's mercy. Siggghhhh!!!! Those fantasies are so far fetched it's depressing. For a quick second I consider settling for a cool lake since I don't live close to the ocean but I won't because it's Florida and I may not make it out in one piece or alive. =(

Because my dreams of cool clear waters is just that, a dream, I opt to wear comfortable clothing made from light non clingy materials and head out to the mall for some good ole window shopping. I tried to brave the sun like a true rebel wearing black for some outdoor shots but I was shamefully defeated by the suns touch after only a few shots. I swear sometimes I feel like it's literally saying to me, "this is my world and I'll let you out when I feel like it."

If I didn't believe in the theory of global warming before, I definitely do now because there's no way the sun can be working alone. What about you? Is the heat unbearable where you are?

Ocean blue

Photobucket

Headaches and sinus pains are the worse but color always makes it better. Especially the colors I'm wearing in this post which were inspired by the colors of the ocean.

Have you ever wondered why tropical getaways are referred to as paradise? Well I do! It's probably because of the lush greenery, the crystal clear waters and the warm temperatures all year long. People are so obsessed with color whether we realize it or not. Can you picture a world where everything is grey? BORING! It'll probably look like what we saw on those black and white TVs that we were so quick to get rid of with the invention of colored TV. Oh and look at how we're so crazy now for HDTV, LED TVs and DSLR cameras (I'm saving up for one of these...can't wait). The better the image quality the more we want it. If the images were only in black and white (people called it black and white but I saw grey) do you think we would care about the technological upgrades? I think not! So blah blah blah...all I'm trying to say is, there's a time for color and a time for neutrals. It's summer and now is the time for color! Embrace it! A big thank you to all the designers that keep bringing bright colors into my life. All this talk about color blocking getting old, when we're not even out of summer yet and the trees and skies are so beautiful, is depressing! Seriously!

P.S. These are the shorts I mentioned I thrifted a few weeks ago. Aren't they great?

HOLY SHIT

IMG_3535

It's really an amazing thing to reflect on your past and see how far one (or something) has come. Today while rummaging through my piles and piles of files i've managed to store over the past 10 years I came across a letter I received from Planned Parenthood of Texas back in 2002. The letter states that as of March 16th 2002 you are 12 weeks pregnant and due on September 28th 2002. THAT was a total "HOLY SHIT" moment and still is today as I re-read this letter with my 8 year old son (almost 9 on September 12th) sitting less than 2 feet from me sorting clothes that he wants to donate. Back then I didn't think I could do it because I was just starting college and school was really important to me. However, I did and he's here, healthy, loving, smart and going to 3rd grade plus I graduated college. Lots of rocky roads but we did it.

I know this has nothing to do with fashion. However, much like myself, i'm sure king Louis XIV would be having a 'HOLY SHIT" moment today had he known his little fashion idea he adapted from croatian soldiers back in the 1700's would give birth to a major fashion trend today. The bow tie! I wonder if I look back at these pictures 20 years from now if i'll have a "HOLY SHIT" moment thinking did I really wear that? Regardless, although worn mostly by men, I enjoy the versatility of the bow tie. Look at how it becomes masculine when worn around the neck yet girly when worn in the hair, around the waist or on a shoe. Isn't it amazing? My collection is growing and my fiance dislikes it. What are your thoughts on the bow tie?

The red lipstick on the other hand can die with this post. One of my many first attempts to red lipstick but I just can't seem to find the right shade that works for me so I wiped it off and put on a more neutral color for my dinner outing. Who wants to bite into red bread anyway? =)

Caribbean dreams

Photobucket

Hey guys, i've been thinking about back home a lot lately so I decided to wear these colors that reminded me of that. I'm not completely sure why I choose these specific colors but maybe it's because I spent so much time at my brother's house on my last visit. In that case the orange would represent the color of his house, the white would represent the clouds (the view) and the blue represents the color of the pool and the ocean it looks out to. It's funny how you can get inspiration from any and everything. Let me know what inspires you. Happy browsing! XOXO

P.S. I'm sooooo sorry for the photo quality. I use photobucket to host these photos and I haven't figured out why they look so pixelated or how to fix this issue. I'm working on it but it won't stop me from blogging!

Color blocking on the show Single Ladies

I don't know about you guys but color blocking can NEVER get to old for me. I'm an island girl and color is a part of my DNA..haha! With that said my mind was blown away by this weeks episode of the show Single Ladies on VH1. OMG did you guys see Stacey Dash's pink and green ensemble? I freakin LOVEDDDDDD it. Anthony Williams is definitely now on my 'fashion to watch' radar. In case you didn't know, he was one of the designers on season 7 of the show project runway. GOOGLE HIM! He also designed the skirt Stacey was wearing. Here's a clip of Anthony speaking about his styling and color blocking. Great tips! Get inspired people! Happy browsing! XOXO

Today I was able to do some thrifting and I found some amazing green high waisted shorts. Green pants had been on my wish list for a while and i'm excited I found them. I'm sure you'll be seeing them soon. I didn't get to do too much shopping because my fiance was in a hurry which is probably a good thing because I save money. This outfit is what I wore and despite how it may look, these heels were comfortable enough for me to keep them on all day. Happy browsing! xoxo

From the pool to the mall

Today was extremely hot so I wanted to take the minimal clothing route again so I grabbed a pair of my short shorts and a tank top. My thought process was; dress like you're going to the beach but make it less revealing so I don't freeze to death inside of stores. My boyfriend wanted to go to the mall to shop for some suits so I pulled on my new favorite orange blazer from Zara, threw on a fedora to cover the bad hair day and some accessories and viola. It was like bright magic! LOL! The blazer provided the exact type of coverage I was looking for and it was perfect for my mood. I call it the happy blazer because of how bright it is. In fact I love this blazer so much I went out about a month ago and bought it in a different color (pink & khaki) which I have yet to wear. Maybe when we get some cooler weather i'll pull it on. Hope you like!

Oh and if you're viewing this blog PLEASE don't hesitate to friend/follow me (or even comment) so that we can become bloggies. I'm eager to meet people who share my same interests and view other blogs I may not know about.
